    What is the Musui–Kamado?

The Musui–Kamado is our innovative cast iron induction cooker. It is made up of the Musui, a hand-machined enameled cast iron pot with our signature precision seal, and the Kamado, a state-of-the-art induction stove that delivers three-dimensional heating through precision heat control.

Together, the Musui–Kamado helps home chefs create high-quality meals through simple cooking.

    See it in action

What is the "precision seal" and why is it important?

Our signature precision seal is designed to draw out and condense the natural flavors of ingredients. We meticulously machine the contact area of the pot and lid of the Musui to less than .01 mm of variance, creating an unprecedented seal that locks in moisture and nutrients while enhancing the natural deliciousness of each individual ingredient.

Instead of using water, broth, excess seasoning or sauces, our cookware lets the ingredients do the work.

    What is “three-dimensional heating"?

Inspired by traditional Japanese kamado stoves, the Musui–Kamado creates three-dimensional heating by combining:

    1. High-performance induction coils at the base of the Kamado and

    2. An aluminum surround heater that hugs the sides of the Musui enameled cast iron pot

The result is perfect heat distribution, far exceeding the performance of induction cooktops or gas stoves. No more "hot/cold" spots while cooking.

How does “precision temperature control” work?

The Musui–Kamado makes precision cooking simple. It allows you to sous-vide without the hassle of vacuum-sealing or make temperature-sensitive recipes like poached eggs and custards. You can also proof dough, make yogurt or even craft your own miso.

Additionally, the Kamado's built-in heat sensor monitors and optimizes heat levels for streamlined heat control:

    MED heat: 445ºF
    LOW heat: 300ºF
    EXT LOW heat: 230ºF
WARM: Adjustable in 1ºF from 90-200ºF

Can I use the product in the oven or stovetop?

The Musui can be used both with the Kamado and on its own without the Kamado.

On its own, the Musui can be used with any gas or electric stovetop, induction cooktop and oven (oven-safe up to 570ºF). Please do not use with a microwave.

What is included when I purchase the Musui–Kamado?

Your purchase will come with the 3.9 qt Musui enameled cast iron pot and the Kamado induction stove. It will also include the following accessories: a Vermicular cookbook with over 70 original recipes, 2 measuring cups (one each for water and rice) and a cast iron lid stand. See the Musui–Kamado instruction manual here.

    Are there recipes available?

Yes, every purchase of a Musui–Kamado or standalone Musui comes with a Vermicular cookbook with over 70 original recipes to get you started. You can search for more recipes here.

Why is the brand named "Vermicular"?

Vermicular name is a reference to the wormlike shape of the iron molecules used in our cast iron cookware. Vermicular graphite iron is a unique element known for having hybrid characteristics of exceptional heat conduction and durability. It is a key material that makes our cast iron cookware one of a kind and we wanted to honor our heritage as a cast iron foundry.

    Is Vermicular cookware non-toxic?

Yes, we have conducted third-party product leachate testing for all of our pots both in Japan and the US on separate occasions. We are fully compliant with the US FDA and CA Prop 65 requirements specifically for lead and cadmium leaching.

We’ve also conducted product wipe testing to evaluate potential dislodgeable lead and cadmium levels on the exterior of the pot and both lead and cadmium were not detected.

We forgo bright colors such as red and orange as those color pigments require the use of cadmium which can be harmful to not only the users but also craftsmen as well as the environment.

What is the voltage for the Musui–Kamado?

The voltage of the Kamado induction stove (US model) is 120 V and is compatible with the US standard.

    Product Care
How should I clean my Musui–Kamado?

For the Musui: Do not use any abrasive cleaners to clean. Dry the pot immediately after washing. The contact area of the pot and lid is not enamel-coated and can potentially rust, so make sure the rims are dried thoroughly with a dry cloth. Season the rims by rubbing on a thin coat of cooking oil before the first several uses to minimize rusting.

For the Kamado: Wipe clean with a damp cloth once powered off and cooled down. For tough stains, use a soft cloth with mild dish soap to clean and dry thoroughly with a separate dry cloth. Do not wash the Kamado directly with water, as it is an induction cooker with electrical parts. Immersing in water may result in fire or electric shock.

What if my Musui has rust?

To achieve our signature precision seal, the contact area of the pot and lid is not enamel-coated and can potentially rust. To minimize rust, make sure the rims are dried thoroughly immediately after washing. If you see rust, clean off with mild dish soap. If you still cannot get rid of the rust, use a rust remover.

What about stains or if food gets burnt and stuck onto my Musui?

To remove stubborn burnt food: Fill the pot with enough water to cover the burnt food, add 2–3 tablespoons of baking soda and boil water over medium heat for about 10 minutes. Once cooled, gently scrub with a soft sponge. Repeat this step several times until clean. Never scrub with force or with abrasive cleaners.

To remove stains: If the enamel gets stained, use only non-abrasive cleaners or cookware-safe bleach with a soft brush or sponge.
